www.stardustproject.eu – the official online platform of the STARDUST project – won the 2018 eu Web Award for the Better World category, which acknowledges STARDUST’s commitment towards smart and sustainable solutions across cities in Europe.

On the eve of November 21 in Brussels (Belgium), the European project STARDUST received the 2018 .eu Web Award for its website www.stardustproject.eu under the “Better World” Category. For the first time, a .eu Web Award has been assigned an EU funded Lighthouse project. This website was developed by the Fondazione iCons, the partner spearheading the STARDUST’s communication activities.

The .eu Web Awards competition, which acknowledges websites with.eu domain, has been organised by EURid, the registry manager of the .eu and .ею country code top-level domains upon appointment of the European Commission in 2003. The “Better World” Category is reserved to websites that represent green initiatives and environmentally-friendly organizations.

STARDUST Enlightening European Cities is one of the projects funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme on Smart Cities and Communities, also known as Lighthouse projects. Its goal is to design and implement a number of smart urban interventions in the fields of energy, mobility, ICT and citizens’ engagement in the three Lighthouse cities of Pamplona (Spain), Tampere (Finland) and Trento (Italy). Four Follower cities (Cluj-Napoca in Romania, Derry in Northern Ireland, Kozani in Greece and Litomerice in Czech Republic) will help develop a sound replication strategy of the smart solutions developed by the project. The project, started in October 2017, will run until September 2022.

At the ceremony, STARDUST was represented by its coordinator, Florencio Manteca from CENER and by Mario Martinoli, the director of Fondazione iCons. “STARDUST is a project composed of 30 European companies and institutions from 9 different countries and we are working in trying to improve of life of citizens through smart solutions,” says Florencio Manteca during his acceptance speech at the .EU Web Awards.

Indeed, communication plays a large role in promoting visibility of grandiose EU projects such as STARDUST thus offering a chance for citizens to get engaged. Mario Martinoli highlights the value of showcasing Europe’s Excellency through such initiatives, “The importance of awards is not only the prize itself, but the public recognition of the quality of work done. The .eu Web Awards is one of the most special acknowledgements that we could receive, as it’s all about Europe and European integration, a goal for which we have been working over the past 20 years. This makes us very proud”.

Indeed, this award acknowledges STARDUST’s commitment in pursuing its main mission: building a constellation of smart cities throughout Europe and beyond for a more sustainable world.
